THE FOUNDING OF STRONG TOWER CHRISTIAN MEDIA
The mission of Strong Tower Christian Media is to use communications technology in the proclamation of the Gospel, to lead the the lost to Jesus Christ and the Christian into a closer walk with Him. Strong Tower Christian Media currently operates two non-profit 50,000 watt Christian Radio Stations in Ohio serving a wide coverage area including the cities of: Dayton, Springfield, Cincinnati, and Columbus as well as parts of Norther Kentucky and Eastern Indiana.
Several years before WEEC and WFCJ were officially working together, Tracy Figley and Clair Miller, the two General Managers, were talking about ways to cooperate more in doing the Lord’s work. As we discussed the things these two Christian Radio Ministries had in common, here were some of the highlights:
1. Both Stations went on the air in 1961
2. Both are 50,000 watt FM stations with large coverage areas.
3. Both have a format which blends Bible teaching and music.
4. Both have very similar statements of Faith.
5. Each station uses the others engineer as a back-up
6. Each has a mentality of cooperation, not competition, and
7. Each ministry’s ultimate goal is to glorify our Lord Jesus Christ.
With all these common elements, we set out to find new ways to work with each other in a saturated Christian Radio market where our two station’s signals overlap in a good portion of the Dayton metro area.
Though we discussed many benefits to working together including economies of scale, accomplishing more ministry with the same amount of donations and sharing new technology, there was one most important benefit; A public display of Christian Unity among ministries! In our Lord’s High Priestly Prayer recorded in the Gospel of John Chapter 17 His passionate plea to His Father was that the world would see His followers love for and cooperation with each other.
